Regular traveler would probably know that lamb is referred as Jingisukan (Gengis Khan) in Japan. Sheep was first brought to Hokkaido in 1857. At the peak, there were about 940,000 sheep in Japan. Currently it is less than 10,000.
We drove southwards to Shibetsu to a sheep farm. The sheep here were breeds derived from Suffolk England and had black face and legs.
There were 2 restaurants here. One barbacue and one selling set meals. We decided to try both styles :)
The lamb were tender and only with slight smell. Lamb would need to have "lamb" smell to taste good.
