Yoshino Honkuzuten Gokudo (吉野本葛天極堂奈良本店) in Nara was a shop specialising in Kudzu. What is Kudzu? In Singapore, sometime we take 葛根汤 when we had a cold. It is actually a kind of plant in the pea family.
We were looking for some different variety of food in Nara. After our visit to Todaiji (東大寺), we came here for lunch. We went up to the upper floor. We were the only one at that time and we chose the window table. There was English menu available. We chose a big set and a few ala carte items for tasting.
The main highlight would be the Kudzu noodle (葛きり) that was served cold. The noodle was translucent and light. 美味しい!
The set came with other items including a kudzu udon (釜揚げ葛うどん ) and rice (季節のご飯).
There were desserts made with kudzu. One of them was this mochi. The light texture really made this delicious (ぷるぷる). I preferred this to the usual sticky kind of mochi.
There was a retail shop at the entrance. We bought home some kudzu udon and mochi.
