Otaru Sankaku market (小樽三角市場)

The Sankaku market was just next to the Otaru railway station. We intended to have some fresh fish for breakfast and reached the market just before 7am. The shops were just starting to open. There were a few eateries in the market to choose from.

We chose one restaurant with an accompanying shop selling fresh seafood.

Instead of choosing from the menu, we bought a box of uni and packet of ikura from the shop.

We also ordered Hakkaku(八角) sashimi. This ugly fish was a Otaru specialty. Pretty light and tasty.

Morning sake to go with the raw sashimi :)

After this, we headed back for our breakfast hotel...

Otaru Takano Liquor Store (小樽酒商たかの )

Otaru is famous for its sushi restaurants. After sushi dinner, we passed by a sake liquor store. Otaru town was quiet in Sep, so we decided to buy same sakes back to our room to drink. The store sold locals as well as premium sakes.

The prices for Tatenokawa 光明 and 十八 differed by a zero!

As we were making payment, we heard noises coming from above. Then we realised there was a 'hidden' drinking place above...

According to their website, there was about 100 kinds of alcohol available.

The master was very friendly and tried to share his sake knowledge with us. However we could only understand part of it.

二世古 sake is from Niseko! A hokkaido sake.
死神 sake is from Shimane.

Here is a night photo of the Otaru Canal
