官僚たちの夏 (Kanryotachi no Natsu)

官僚たちの夏 is a japanese drama about Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry during its economic boom after World War II. The close relationship between the government bureaucrats and industrialists were clearly depicted. This was the distinguishing characteristic of the Japan economic miracle and MITI was irrefutably instrumental in this recovery.

The drama revolved around a few passionate individuals that worked hard to improve Japan's industries and its people. There was the advent of monochrome television, refrigerator and washing machine; these were called the three sacred treasures (三種の神器). This led to the boom in consumer durables in the 1950s. Thereafter, 1960s was the decade of "3Cs" - color television, cooler and car.

In 1950, Japan automobile manufacturers were trying to rebuild the industry. However, the chairman of Bank of Japan at that time did not feel the need to have its own auto industry, and should just import from America and Europe. In the drama, the auto manufacturers were ridiculed by their foreigner counterparts. Japan was the largest car producer in 2008.

In 1964, Japan hosted the summer Olympics. From 1966 to 1970, Japan had double digit growth in economic output and wages.
